An Attitude of Gratitude
Posted by: | CommentsAs June 30 marks the fiscal year end for many arts & cultural organizations, I imagine that many of us will be glad to kiss this particularly tough fiscal year goodbye.
Today, though, let’s not dwell on the challenges and heartaches. There is plenty of time in the new year to devise plans and make changes.
Let’s just take a moment to say THANK YOU…
THANK YOU – to the teams of imaginative, energetic & industrious people who staff Arizona’s arts & cultural organizations - colleagues, all – whose imagination, expertise and collaborative spirit make it possible for their organizations to accomplish so much (often with surprisingly little);
THANK YOU – to the artists and experts whose creative, practiced and inspiring work we are privileged to nurture, present and produce;
THANK YOU – to the Boards of Directors whose leadership and support provides the strength for organizations to stand tall in the face of adversity;
THANK YOU – to the Volunteers whose passion, goodwill and energy fuels our organizations efforts;
THANK YOU – to the Donors, Foundations and Companies who recognize the quality of our efforts and the significance of our accomplishments;
THANK YOU – to the Audiences who surprise, delight and compel us with their continued wishes to experience the journeys we offer, (and especially to young audiences in whom we see the promise of ever-unfolding arts & cultural experiences for the future);
THANK YOU – to our spouses, partners, significant-others and families – especially when they indulge us when the time commitment of our work is greater than originally expected (or when the budget is less than hoped.)
THANK YOU - to Friends everywhere. In the realm of arts & culture, there truly are NO SMALL PARTS. Everything our organizations do affects the quality of the experiences we offer.

Cool On-Line Web Tools
Posted by: | CommentsGreetings from the Americans for the Arts annual conference!
I was honored to be invited to be a speaker this year – on the topic of ”technology.” The point of my presentation (delivered this afternoon) was that there exists a WEALTH of free (and nearly free) on-line applications that arts & cultural organizations can use for a myriad of purposes including 1) pursuing fiscal strength; 2) advancing mission; 3) increasing public visibility and 4) enhancing personal connection.
My list of “Cool Web Apps for Arts & Cultural Organizations” can be found on-line here: http://list.ly/list/G7-cool-web-apps-for-arts-cultural-organizations and you are welome (and encouraged) to add YOUR favorite tools to the list!

Announcing: ShowUp for Veterans
Posted by: | Comments“Thank you for your service to our country.”
It’s not just in words but in deeds that Arizona’s arts & cultural community can appreciate the service of Arizona’s active-duty and veteran military service members and their families.
Today, Alliance for Audience is honored to launch ShowUp for Veterans as a heartfelt way to say “Thank You” to Arizona’s Active Duty Military, Veterans and their families and extend an on-going invitation to participate in Arizona’s wealth of arts & cultural activities.
ShowUp for Veterans has been created in partnership with the Veteran Tickets Foundation (www.VetTix.org) a Phoenix-based 501c3 non-profit organization that works nationally. Their mission is simple: Give something to those who gave as a way of saying “thank you.”
Here’s how ShowUp for Veterans Works:
ShowUp.com has built an exclusive ShowUp for Veterans ”window” to its popular Ticket Marketplace (which sells last-minute discount tickets) and installed it WITHIN www.VetTix.org – so that is is accessible exclusively by military service-members through Vet Tix’ online system. However, ALL the discount tickets available in ShowUp.com’s ticket marketplace are available at an even lower price when access via www.VetTix.org – as Alliance for Audience removes its own service charge resulting in additional savings of $1 to $8 per ticket (depending on the price of the tickets).
In addition to that routine “extra discounting” ShowUp for Veterans also provides an easy way for arts & cultural organizations to make available discount and special offers that are NOT available to the general public at all! (Operationally, it’s precisely like selling tickets via the Ticket Marketplace – just click the “ShowUp for Veterans” button.”)
“Veteran Tickets Foundation is always looking for new opportunities to reach out to the 24 million veterans in the United States,” said CEO and founder of Vet Tix Michael Focareto. “This partnership with Alliance for Audience fits our mission of saying ‘thank you’ to a tee.”
A very special thank you goes to Bank of America for underwriting the ShowUp for Veterans initiative!

Community Database: Now 689,680 Unique Households Strong!
Posted by: | CommentsAs of this morning, welcome these new organizations to the Arizona Arts & Cultural Census/Community Database:
- Arizona Citizens/Action for the Arts
- Chandler Center for the Arts
- DuoWest
- Jazz in AZ
- Metropolitan Tucson Convention & Visitors Bureau
- Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau

Having uploaded 5-years worth of audience data to the highly-secure & completely confidential community database, they join 42 other organizations listed here: http://allianceforaudience.org/Pages/arts&culturecensus.html
In total, the Community Database now holds information on 689,680 Unique Households – THAT’S OVER 25% OF ALL ARIZONA HOUSEHOLDS!
While each organization’s specific household data is absolutely confidential, this database represents a powerful asset for conducting research about how individual organizations – and the arts & cultural community as a whole – is serving the Arizona population at large.
